Suburb Profiles

Griffith is surrounded by numerous smaller villages and townships, making the loved Griffith city even more popular!

Yenda NSW 2681:
Yenda is a town in the Riverina district of New South Wales. The town is located approximately 16 kilometres east of Griffith. The 2006 Census recorded Yenda's population at 1,064 but this has since increased. Yenda is home to many farms, residential houses and businesses. The Yenda township has a few pubs, a sporting oval, supermarket, hairdresses, restaurants, cafes, St Therese's Roman Catholic Church, Yenda Public School, service stations, post office and local stores such as a butcher, pharmacy and newsagency. In March 2012, the small but close-knit town was ravished by brutal flooding which saw homes and farms destroyed, livestock lost and businesses foresee closure. The town is still in the process of cleaning up and recuperating but is well on it's way to restoring itself back to the popular and prime little town that it was prior to the disaster.

Yoogali NSW 2680:
Another of Griffith's surrounding suburbs is Yoogali, located within a 5 minutes drive to the Griffith CBD. Yoogali is a lot smaller than Yenda but is still made up of homes, two sporting ovals, two clubs, hair dresser/beauty salon and an Indian church. Although not as bad as Yenda, Yoogali was also hit by the March 2012 floods which has resulted in the closure of the local post office and butcher shop. Homes are also still in the process of being repaired.

Hanwood NSW 2680:
Hanwood is approximately a 10 minute's drive from the centre of Griffith. The small township consists of homes, farms, Hanwood Sports Club, a sporting oval, Hanwood Public School, Italian pizza restaurant, post office, service station and a few other local businesses. Hanwood too, was struck by the floods disaster but is still home to a strong and supportive community.

Beelbangera and Bilbul NSW 2680:
Beelbangera is the small community you will pass through en route to Yenda via Rankins Springs Road. There are only a limited number of residential streets that make up Beelbangera but there are a few surrounding farms along with the Beelbangera Store and Beelbangera Public School. Similar in size to Beelbangera, Bilbul can be found when passing along Burley Griffin Way. Two of Griffith's extensive range of wineries can be found in these suburbs. Beelgara Estate is located in Beelbangera and De Bortoli Wines is in Bilbul.

Tharbogang NSW 2680:
Tharbogang is another village located 8 kilometres north west of the city of Griffith. At the 2006 census, Tharbogang and the surrounding rural area had a population of 737. Griffith's main waste deposit centre, Tharbogang Landfill is located in this area. There is a general store and post office to service the small population of the Tharbogang community. There is a variety of farms located in this area also.

Darlington Point NSW 2706:
